A bumper crowd cheers on Team BRIT at Silverstone

Team BRIT took to the track once again last weekend in round five of the UK Fun Cup Championship held at Silverstone.

The event was extra special for the team, as it saw the unveiling of the team’s fully liveried trailer and truck supplied by new sponsors DAF UK and partners. (Full story here)

The team also had exclusive use of the British Racing Drivers’ Club in which it welcomed almost 200 sponsors, fans and family members for a day of racing and hospitality.

The team headed to the track for testing on Friday, during which solid laps were delivered by all drivers.  They suffered from a slight lack of straight line speed, so the technical crew led by Race Engineer Al Locke made changes to the set up to make for faster times.

A team of four drivers competed in #312, with qualifying on Saturday morning.  Martyn Compton was first out on track, followed by Jon-Allan Butterworth, Jimmy Hill then James Russell.

The Fun Cup’s random start allocation drew the team in P21 out of a grid of 27 so the team had a lot of ground to cover from the outset.
Martyn quickly made up three places but moved back to 20th by the time he handed the baton to Jon-Allan. The team stuck at around p20 for a while before making up a place by pitting under a safety car, and another place by changing the fuel strategy mid-race and doing a fast stop without refuelling,

All four drivers drove consistently well, delivering a clean race with controlled laps to bring them home in P18.

Team Founder and CEO Dave Player said, “What a brilliant weekend we’ve had at Silverstone.

“Our four drivers did us proud, working fantastically well together, taking on the race with determination and consideration – the result of their hard work and ongoing coaching by fellow drivers Warren and Jamie.

“To also unveil our magnificent new truck and trailer at such an iconic venue, in front of so many sponsors and supporters was a really special moment.  We’re moving forward yet again, with another major backer, taking us one step closer to Le Mans.”
The team will next compete in the Fun Cup Championship at Brands Hatch on September 8th.
