On Tuesday 5th October, twenty teams gathered at Daytona Sandown Park for the annual Team BRIT insurance industry karting challenge.

For the third time, teams from across the industry – colleagues and friends of team title sponsor Brit Insurance came together for a fun day of kart racing.

Torrential rain overnight caused some early morning challenges for the Daytona team, which were quickly overcome in time to welcome the guests, with each being provided with wet weather gear on top of their usual race suits.

After 40 minutes of practice and qualifying the teams took their places on the grid with Team BRIT driver Bobby Trundley just taking the pole ahead of the fast-charging team from Aon.

Just seconds before the start of the main endurance race the heavens opened. Fortunately, the shower was short lived but it made conditions wet enough for some serious slip sliding from karts on the track.

As the racers settled into the 3hr race, the sunshine made a brief appearance and guests were able to enjoy a BBQ lunch while they kept an eye on their team mates zooming around the challenging 900m circuit.

For an extra challenge, guests had the chance to try their hand at changing a wheel on the team’s Aston Martin GT4. The team from Adrian Flux carried out the fastest change and were rewarded with some prizes from Karcher.

Team BRIT Commercial Director Mike Scudamore said: “This was our second sponsor karting event this year and the third time we’ve held these days for the industry industry.

“Despite some seriously challenging weather which tested everyone from the track crew to the drivers, it was such a fun day and everyone really enjoyed the chance to get out of the office and on the track.

“Thank you to everyone that supported the event and came to meet our team, crew and supporters. We can’t wait for next year’s event.”
