Team BRIT’s expert ‘man in Le Mans’ gives his thought on the incredible experience that was driving with the team during the Spa 25 hours.
I was delighted to join the team as they achieved yet another milestone at the Spa 25 hour race on their way to Le Mans.
In 17 years of racing this was the most emotional of race weekends. . . better than my race wins, better than my championship wins. I have had ten years away from the racing seat, which is a long time, and the challenge of racing a new car, on a new track, at night was daunting . . but Team BRIT drivers all had a similar challenge with much less experience.
Graham, Al Locke and all the mechanics were awesome, the support staff were fantastic to be with and kept everyone smiling, and of course the drivers deserve every accolade thrown at them. For Jacky Ickx to respect your efforts, visit you for a photo and give you encouragement . .. wow! He is 8 times an F1 winner and 6 times Le Mans 24hr winner. That was respect, something I also have in abundance for the whole team.
I remember calling my partner after the race, she asked how we did, and I couldn't speak. Yes I was tired, but in all honesty I was very emotional and that's because of the team. I really look forward to working with Team BRIT more and giving them as much of the knowledge and experience I have gained in the 28 years of involvement in this amazing sport.
A heartfelt thank you for the opportunity to become part of the team.
