A second 2019 podium finish for Team BRIT

Team BRIT has taken a podium spot for the second time this year.

Saturday 11th May saw the team compete in the third round of the Britcar Championship, this time at the iconic Brands Hatch circuit. Testing during the day before had gone well, with a few setup changes helping the drivers find promising pace ahead of the two 1-hour races.

The weather threatened to provide challenging conditions for the weekend and as expected, heavy rain fell in spells throughout the day.

Experienced drivers Warren McKinlay and Martyn Compton once again took to the wheel to represent the team, driving the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4.

After a wet practice session the pair gave it their best in qualifying and were disappointed to finish last, despite being only 10ths of a second behind some of the competing pro-drivers.

After lunch, the first 1-hour race got underway and Warren and Martyn gave an incredible performance.
The track was dry for the beginning of the race so the Team BRIT crew sent the car out on slick tyres and rain started just as the pit lane window opened.  Steadily moving up the grid throughout the first half of the race, Team BRIT's was the first car in for a driver change and took the opportunity to switch to wet tyres, gaining a further position during the pit stop due to their speedy work. This proved to be an excellent decision as the rain got heavier and heavier through the race.

Warren and Martyn put in fantastic lap times to move the car all the way up from last place to finish 3rd in class and 5th overall.

Their finish dictated their start position for race 2.  They battled hard again, maintaining their position for the majority of the race, finishing 5th in class and 7th overall.

CEO and Founder Dave Player said, “Saturday was just what the entire team needed.  It was the first race in a long time where we haven’t faced any mechanical gremlins.  Everything went smoothly with each team member playing their part in a fantastic performance.

“The crew once again worked tirelessly to keep the car in top shape and both drivers are showing stronger and more confident track times.  This year is proving to be exceptional for our team. We may have the smallest budget but we’re setting our sights high and showing people what can be achieved with a lot of determination.”
