Members of staff from Brackley-based automotive business, ATEC Autotechnic, have been racing around Silverstone with members of motorsport’s most inspirational team.
ATEC, a leading manufacturer of fluid transfer systems for the automotive industry is a long-term supporter of Team BRIT – a racing team which aims to be the first ever all-disabled team to race in Le Mans.
Many of the team’s drivers are injured military troops, and the team is competing in GT4 races and the UK Fun Cup championship, with the goal of making history by competing in Le Mans by 2020.
It has developed the world’s most advanced hand controls which allow disabled drivers to compete on equal terms with able-bodied drivers.
On Monday 14th May, two of ATEC’s staff, Fiona East and Bradley De Souza Williams, visited the team at a test day at Silverstone. ATEC had stored the team’s two Fun Cup cars in advance of the day and Team BRIT driver Warren McKinlay was carrying out his first session as an instructor.
Fiona and Bradley spent time with Warren and fellow driver and military veteran Martyn Compton before they were taken for ‘hot laps’ in the team’s specially adapted double seater Fun Cup cars. The cars are soon also to be available for track day experiences.
Warren said, “ATEC really is a part of the Team BRIT family. They have supported us for the last four years and continually go out of their way to help us.
“Just storing our cars ahead of our Silverstone track day saved us a huge amount of time and expense, so the least we could do was invite some of their team over so they could see just what their backing enables. Martyn and I would not be progressing in motorsport in the way we are without their help so it was great to get them in our cars for a taste of life as a Team BRIT racer!”
Jeanne Robinson from ATEC said, “It’s always nice to be in a position to help Team BRIT out. Fiona and Bradley were thrilled to have the opportunity to go to Silverstone on Monday afternoon and returned to the office on a real high. We as a company remain in awe of everyone at Team BRIT and what they do for their current and prospective drivers”
