Team BRIT driver and former marine Jamie Falvey from Farnsfield in Nottinghamshire is top of the points table in the official 2018 Caterham Championship after two podium finishes this weekend.
Round one of the championship was held at Snetterton, with testing on Thursday and Friday and two days of racing on Friday and Saturday.
Jamie was competing for Matt Blyth Motorsport in his personal Caterham racing car, fully liveried with Team BRIT logos.
He began Saturday’s race in P2 and finished third. On Sunday he began in P2 and held the position for the whole race before a final push at the end to finish as winner.
This was his debut race in the championship, which he is competing in alongside his time with Team BRIT. He will begin GT racing with Team BRIT later this year and has recently started to provide mentoring and coaching to the team’s rookies as they enter the Fun Cup series.
Team BRIT is aiming to become the first ever all-disabled team to race in the Le Mans 24 hour. Many of its drivers are injured military troops. Jamie served in the Marine Commandos from 2010 to 2016, to the rank of Lance Corporal. In 2016 he was medically discharged after sustaining permanent hearing damage and tinnitus as a result of his time served within the corps.
Jamie said: “I am over the moon with how the weekend went – it was the best experience ever. I’d like to give special thanks to Matt Blyth Motorsport Ltd for the awesome team support all weekend, Team BRIT for giving me the opportunity the get into car racing in the first place - a dream come true, and finally sponsors Urban Planters and MetroRod Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire for backing me all the way.
“It was a true team effort and it feels awesome to be able to pay it all back with a podium and race win. I never thought I’d be fortunate enough to race at this level. Thanks also to the Caterham paddock and drivers for making me feel so welcome. Roll on round 2.”
Jamie will race in the Caterham again at the Castle Combe Caterham Graduates Championship Race Day on Monday 28th May.
